Its pallets and containers form the backbone of food and non-food supply chains in more than 60 countries.

As a pioneer of the circular economy, CHEP is one of the most responsible logistics companies in the world. Its operating mode in rental-management (pooling) is based on sharing, reusing and recycling its 300 million media. The group also offers a range of associated services designed to improve its customers' logistics performance while helping to reduce their environmental footprint in complete safety.

CHEP is part of the Brambles Group and employs around 11,000 people worldwide.

Joining FRET 21 means having built a programme that will contribute to reducing its carbon emissions by 7%, i.e. 1800 tonnes of CO2eq avoided in 2021.

CHEP's Collaborative Transportation Solutions program is one of the key projects the company is implementing to reduce its carbon footprint. Since 2018, the company and the customers participating in the program have already reduced their CO2 emissions by 41,000 tons.

Latifa Gahbiche, CEO of CHEP France & Morocco, sums up the programme as follows:

"How to carry more with less? The solution is complex, but it is only possible if there is tangible collaboration between manufacturers, distributors and service providers. A challenge that has been CHEP's DNA since the group's creation over 70 years ago. The actions we undertake with our customers have a very strong potential for success, we are confident".

The 4 pillars of CHEP's collaborative solutions:

  1. Optimization of the Filling Rate

By concentrating pallet collections on retail platforms and optimising the height of the pallets in the vehicles, the number of trucks on the road is reduced.

Axis 1 Filling Rate (1)

  1. Reduction of distances travelled

Thanks to an intelligent system developed by BXB Digital, its digital subsidiary, CHEP supervises the millions of movements of more than 200 customers. As a result, CHEP is able to optimise routes and share transport with its customers to reduce empty kilometres. In addition, the group is also working to reduce maritime flows from French overseas departments and territories to mainland France by recycling used pallets on site.

Axis 2 Distances travelled

  1. Transport mode

CHEP reduces the number of trucks on the road by delivering its customers directly from a distributor (Origin Distribution service) and by reusing its customers' empty return trains to deliver pallets to them.

Axis 3 Means of Transport (1)

  1. Responsible purchasing

CHEP is committed to increasing, in 3 years, the number of transport partners who have signed the charter "Objectif CO2". 65% of them have already signed it. They are also studying the use of other alternative energies such as hydrogen or electricity.

Axis 4 Responsible Purchasing (1)

The CHEP model is inherently sustainable

Its sustainable business model, based on shared, reused and recycled eco-designed products, is a logic that is fully in line with the circular economy. Thus, for the fourth consecutive year, CHEP is ranked by EcoVadis among the 1% of companies with the best CSR performance in Europe. The rating platform distinguishes CHEP for its respect of the environment but also for its work practices.
