Driven by its raison d'être "to improve the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future", the Nestlé Group is strongly committed to reducing the environmental impact of the transport of its products.

Thus, the Group is committed to reducing by 9%, or 8000 tonnes of CO2, on upstream and downstream flows within 5 of its entities: Nestlé France, Purina, Herta, Nestlé Céréales and Nestlé Waters.

By involving its various partners in this approach, the Group hopes to show the way and get them on board by pooling expertise. The common objective is to reduce CO² emissions while maintaining and improving the quality of the Nestlé Group's service.

In order to deliver on our commitment, Nestlé has defined 4 lines of work comprising 46 actions, of which :

  • Increase in average Filling Rate , allowing better optimization of tours.
  • Implementation of loops allowing the reduction of empty km.
  • Increase in the number of road-rail flows in transport plans.
  • Implementation of CNG transport loops.
  • Sharing of a questionnaire to define environmental selection criteria.
  • Increase in the proportion of chartered and/or Objective CO² certified transporters.

All these actions have been validated by the General Directorates, signatories of the commitment, which support the FRET 21 project. Respect for the environment is a major pillar of the Group's raison d'être, as demonstrated by the commitment of the 5 Group entities to FRET 21.

The FRET 21 approach should lead to a significant reduction in CO² emissions in the transport of Nestlé products. It is also an opportunity to develop the partnership relationship with transport service providers and suppliers by fully involving them in the FRET 21 approach. It is a further step towards a greener approach in order to continue on this path and make it a real selection criterion in the choice of our partners, and depending on the results obtained, to extend the approach to other flows, such as upstream international flows.

A team has been appointed within the Group to ensure the smooth running of the FRET 21 project, under the supervision of the Transport Manager within Nestlé France Distribution. The Nestlé team is supported by CPV to help them formulate and identify actions that can lead to the reduction of CO² emissions.
